1997 MARS PICTURES

As a fan of NASA and a photographer I want to see these images presented in their best possible viewing. I do it for myself and to share with you - I am not copyrighting these – they are free from our Government so copy them, print them, enjoy them. They belong to everyone on the planet. I just wanted to add my talents as a contribution to this amazing achievement.

Photoshop work includes brightening the NASA images - they are posted in compressed luminance form which makes them dark. I restore the range of brightness, then crop and remove some of the annoying flaws like things cut in half, color splotches, etc. The Martian Russell R.-brown is pretty well known now so I try to balance the color channels to get it to look like, well, Mars! Sharpening is done with selective contrast enhancement, color saturation and tools that accentuate tonal changes. In other words I spend hours on some pictures.
